POETRY
A selection of poems I’ve written and lyrics which have not yet been, or may never be, put to music.

Champion (lyrics)
Should I challenge you, my soul, to bring heart to hardened wise?
Old ships, run by better craftsmen
Those who heard and sang their song into the wind
And will that tightening of the sail ever come this way again?

Father, I hear your cries of a would-be giant
A champion in my eyes
Sleep pangs grown stronger through the years
With the distance adding nothing but shine to my fears
Don't fade, don't fade away.

Futility
Eleven thirty-something, Friday
On this six-plus year-old couch
Red microfiber washed a hundred times
My kindergartener sleeps sound
Mouth open-wide, audibly breathing
Blonde curls resting candid all around.

It occurs to me, two directors
One of will and one of post
Both think they traded up with me removed
Blame it on the economy
My lack of faith in those traditions
The truth is one was lost and one was found.

Let us believe in angels, the unforeseen of now
And talk not badly of this, our condition
We cannot view an email auto-response
As lack of recognition -
For the résumé of the soul does not
Depend on their position.
